I'm Loving Livestream Yoga
Vasisthasana/Side Arm Plank Pose Variation |
I miss being with my students, I long for being in the yoga studios I taught in, but I must admit I've fallen in love with teaching livestream yoga classes. What I love is how deep my focus must be teaching on this platform. To teach yoga you must be focused, but teaching livestream without students physically in front of me to help guide my cueing, has me going into a profound state of inner reflection while leading class.
While live-streaming I physically do the class with my students to create a visual and set the pace. This enables me to tune into the sensations that arise within me, so I can cue from there. I articulate how to move into a posture, abide in it, and let go of a pose. I encourage students to drop in and go into the sensational experience they are having and feed it with breath. I often suggest seeing if you can let the breath be the focus, so the storylines running through your mind of the past and the future can be blown through like clouds moving in the sky. The result is a state of centeredness and calm.
As an online student the live aspect of a livestream class has me show up and not put my practice off for later like I would do with a prerecorded class. Being physically alone, in my space without the before and after class chit chat, and the in class occasional distractions has me go deeper into myself. I sense my breath having a dialogue with my body and I hear every single word my teacher shares. It's reflective, it's wonderful, and I can feel a whole lot of healing is being done in this space because I feel fantastic after I practice. Also I know other students are practicing with me. Although we are all separated and muted, practicing in a livestream class together reminds me that my yoga community still exists and one day we will reunite.
